Homologating a non-EU car in Greece

Έγκριση Μεμονωμένου Οχήματος

A vehicle imported from outside the EU is entered into Greece's registry of imported used vehicles (ΜΕΜΟ) and, where it lacks a usable EU type approval, needs an individual vehicle approval under Regulation (EU) 2018/858, handled by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport's Directorate of Vehicle Technology.

The process, step by step

  1. 1
    ΜΕΜΟ registration

The vehicle's chassis number, category, manufacturer, model, and engine details are entered into Greece's registry of imported used vehicles (ΜΕΜΟ).

  2. 2
    Documentation review

We check whether the vehicle already has a usable EU or national type approval, or needs the individual route.

  3. 3
    Technical dossier

The documentation the Directorate of Vehicle Technology needs to evaluate the vehicle individually is assembled.

  4. 4
    Individual approval decision

The Ministry reviews and grants the individual vehicle approval under Regulation (EU) 2018/858.

  5. 5
    Registration

Once approved, the vehicle can be registered and plated.

Typical timeline

Varies by vehicle and documentation completeness. We give you a realistic estimate after reviewing your vehicle.

Frequently asked

What is ΜΕΜΟ and do I need to register there first?

ΜΕΜΟ is Greece's registry of imported used vehicles. Registering a used import there, with details like chassis number and engine displacement, is a required step alongside, not instead of, the individual approval process.

What EU regulation governs this approval?

Individual vehicle approval in Greece is formalized under Articles 43 and 46 of Regulation (EU) 2018/858, the same EU whole-vehicle type-approval framework referenced across the other countries we cover.

Still need to source the vehicle?

HomologateMyCar handles what happens once the car is in Europe. If you haven't sourced it yet, our sister company DriveSino exports vehicles from China to Greece and has a dedicated import guide for it.
