Homologating a non-EU car in Sweden

A used vehicle imported from outside the EU generally can't use Sweden's enskilt godkännande (individual approval) route, which is reserved for new vehicles. Instead it goes through an origin check (ursprungskontroll) followed by a registration inspection (registreringsbesiktning) at an approved inspection company, with customs duty and VAT due on entry.

Can I use enskilt godkännande for a used car from outside the EU?

No. Individual approval (enskilt godkännande) is reserved for new vehicles. A used import instead goes through an origin check and a registration inspection, a related but separate route.

What if the vehicle already has a foreign individual approval certificate?

It can be submitted alongside the origin-check application, but Transportstyrelsen in Borlänge must separately approve it before it can be used as the basis for a Swedish registration inspection.
