The operator of a vehicle imported individually from outside Slovakia must request either individual recognition of an existing EU type approval, or national individual approval, for the specific vehicle. The competent authority is the district office's road transport department, and the operator arranges and pays for the required tests at a technical inspection service.

What's the difference between the two approval routes?

Individual recognition of EU type approval applies when the vehicle already has a usable EU type approval to recognize; national individual approval is the route for a vehicle that doesn't, and needs Slovakia's own national review instead.

Who pays for the technical inspection?

The operator of the individually imported vehicle arranges and pays for the required tests and inspections at a technical inspection service, at their own expense, as part of the application.
