A vehicle brought into Latvia from outside the EU must pass CSDD certification, confirming the vehicle's technical condition matches EU norms, covering points like headlight beam pattern and indicator light colour, before individual certification (sertifikācija) can be issued and the vehicle registered.
The process, step by step
- 1Documentation review
The manufacturer's declarations and component certificates CSDD's Technical Department requires are gathered.
- 2Booking the inspection
An appointment is booked at CSDD's certification centre in Riga (or a regional equivalent).
- 3Technical inspection
The vehicle is checked against EU technical norms, including headlight beam pattern and indicator light colour.
- 4Modifications, if flagged
Any non-compliant points are corrected and the vehicle is re-presented.
- 5Certification and registration
Once approved, CSDD issues the individual certification, needed for registration.
CSDD's own guidance states that submitted documentation is reviewed within 10 working days; total time also depends on the inspection appointment and any required modifications.
